Anticipation is building for the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour, set to ignite Mount Panorama from January 31st to February 2nd. As the opening round of the 2025 Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC), this iconic endurance race promises a thrilling showdown on one of the world’s most demanding circuits. The 3.861-mile track, with its 23 corners, steep elevation changes, and high-speed straights, will test the limits of both man and machine in a grueling 12-hour battle from just before dawn to near dusk.
This year, four powerhouse manufacturers—BMW, Mercedes-AMG, defending champions Porsche, and returning contenders Ferrari—are set to dominate the 19-strong GT3 field. Porsche arrives with momentum, fielding 2024 winners Matt Campbell and Ayhancan Güven alongside Absolute Racing, aiming to repeat their triumph. Mercedes-AMG, with eight entries, boasts a formidable lineup, including the reunited trio of Kenny Habul, Luca Stolz, and Jules Gounon, who narrowly missed a third consecutive win last year. BMW brings factory-backed WRT squads, featuring stars like Charles Weerts, while Ferrari’s Arise Racing team, with Chaz Mostert and Daniel Serra, emerges as a dark horse. New GT3 models, like the Ferrari 296, Ford Mustang, and Chevrolet Corvette, could also shake up the grid.
The race kicks off with revised regulations, including two formation laps and a streamlined qualifying format, culminating in a 10-car shootout for pole. Mount Panorama’s unique challenges—tight technical sections, rapid descents, and unpredictable weather—ensure strategy and stamina will be key. Beyond the track, fans can expect a festival atmosphere with classic car displays, entertainment, and local Supercars stars like Craig Lowndes adding hometown flavor. As the first of five global IGTC rounds, Bathurst 2025 sets the stage for a season of high-octane GT racing excellence.
