Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut, hosts the Trans Am Series National Championship as part of the Memorial Day Classic, a tradition dating back to 1967. The 1.478-mile, 7-turn road course, the shortest on the Trans Am schedule, promises intense racing amidst the lush, green hillsides of the Berkshires. With temperatures in the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit, typical for late May, the weather sets a perfect stage for high-octane action under partly cloudy skies.
The event features five classes: TA, TA2, XGT, SGT, and GT, showcasing a diverse field of over 40 cars, from 850+ horsepower American V8s like Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers to sleek production-based GT machines. The TA2 race kicks off the day at 1:20 p.m. ET, following qualifying at 8:45 a.m. ET, with drivers like Chris Dyson, fresh off a win at Laguna Seca, and Matthew Brabham, returning to TA, aiming to dominate on Dyson’s home track. Rafa Matos, leading the TA2 points, faces tight competition from Tristan McKee, while veterans like Tomy Drissi and newcomers like Connor Mosack add depth to the grid.
Fans can expect a packed day, with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association also on track, blending modern muscle with vintage flair. The atmosphere is family-friendly, with free admission for veterans, active military, and kids under 12, plus hillside picnics and a Royals Car Show on Sunday. Andy Lally, a Lime Rock veteran, serves as Grand Marshal, adding to the event’s prestige. The paddock buzzes with activity, including the Winners Circle Project, where high school students showcase their Factory Five builds. With a 68-lap, 75-minute race streaming live on the Trans Am YouTube channel, tomorrow’s showdown at Lime Rock Park is set to be a thrilling celebration of speed and heritage.
