Event Description

Trans Am National – Virginia International Raceway VIR 2025

The Trans Am Series National Championship arrives at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) on September 18-21, 2025, for the VIR SpeedTour, a pivotal late-season event. Located in Alton, Virginia, near the North Carolina border, VIR’s 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course is a fan and driver favorite, known for its challenging layout with iconic sections like the Climbing Esses, Roller Coaster, and NASCAR Bend—named after struggles by Richard Petty and others in a 1966 Trans Am race. The track’s history dates back to 1957, hosting legends like Carroll Shelby, who won the inaugural feature race.

All five Trans Am classes—TA, TA2, XGT, SGT, and GT—will compete, with over 50 cars expected. TA features 850+ horsepower beasts like Chevrolet Corvettes and Ford Mustangs, while TA2 showcases close racing with production-based cars. XGT and SGT bring exotic GT machinery, and GT adds nimble sports cars. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) joins the event, blending vintage racers with modern muscle, celebrating VIR’s rich history. Past winners like Chris Dyson and Rafa Matos, who have tasted victory here, will look to leverage their experience.

VIR’s 1,300-acre motorsport resort offers fans a unique experience, with natural viewing areas like the Oak Tree Turn and South Bend providing thrilling vantage points. The September weather, typically in the low 80s, will complement the vibrant atmosphere, with the track surrounded by lush greenery. The paddock is open for fans to meet drivers and see cars up close, while amenities like the Pagoda Grill and on-site camping enhance the weekend.

The TA2 race, a 31-lap, 75-minute sprint, is set for Saturday at 12:40 p.m. ET, followed by the TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature on Sunday. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. daily, with tickets starting at $35, and kids 12 and under free. Live streaming on the Trans Am YouTube channel ensures global access to the action.
